Charities

Donating money to charities is a practice that occurs the world over for a number of different reasons, and a number of different charitable organisations exist. Many people volunteer to work for charities and will help with their fund raising, it is quite common to be stopped on the street for a person asking for a moment of your time, these people are frequently working as fund raisers for charities.

Charities exist to benefit many causes or people and there are charities that exist for war veterans, disabled people and animals, the list of charities is practically endless. Many charities will give out badges, or stickers to people who donate money to their cause and they will wear them to show their support towards their favourite charities. Coloured ribbons are popular motifs used by charities in the UK and many people will wear them if they support charities which have had some effect on their life or support a cause they feel especially close to. There are also a number of rules and regulations governing charities, granting them tax exemption for example, however there are also rules in place to prevent the creation of fraudulent charities and the laundering of money donated to charities.

One method of fundraising employed by charities, especially in the UK is the charity shop. These shops are a common sight on UK high streets and will sell on goods they have received through donations such as second hand clothes in order to raise money for the charities they represent.
